About

This website is a cautionary tale, a case study, and a prototype. It contains a summary and an archive of the 16-year close friendship and detailed correspondence between:

"The archive and summaries describe in candid detail the coming out of a young gay man, the coming of age of a boy and a girl, the friendship of two kindred souls, and the damage done when the unwritten rules of ethics governing personal relationships get broken. How and why does someone go from this (2005) to this (2015), what makes them oscillate repeatedly between extremes of sentiment for you if the way you treat them hasn't changed? How and why does someone go from leaning on close women friends (2007) to being a self-professed misogynist (2014)? The answers are on this website. At first glance they and the whole story may seem driven by the two protagonists' gender and sexual orientation, but the patterns of behavior it illustrates are common in all types of relationships and readers may recognize them from their own experiences and observations. The harm some of these behaviors cause is also common and it shouldn't be. One way to make it less common is to share such stories in verifiable detail in a searchable medium. Brandon has harmed me; I want to make it harder for him to harm others.

I compiled this archive and webpage so that anyone who comes into contact with Brandon can learn from his own words in their full context what has shaped him as a person, how he thinks, feels, acts, and why, and what they can expect from him. The archive consists of 500+ entries which are primary sources for his personality. The vast majority of messages are still in my email and chat accounts and can be verified by the service providers." -- Julia
